It is an excellent value at ~ $35. I have purchased several of these and given many as gifts. However, to get the amazing (advertised) brightness, you will need rechargable NiMH batteries (I recommend Sanyo "Eneloop") and a charger (see technical below) as all high-power (ultra-bright) LED flashlights need strong electrical current for them to drive at their potential. Use the included alkaline AA batteries only in a pinch as they will not generate full brightness. TECHNICAL: Other reviewers have covered most features fairly well. I will add that this light may use blink technology (high frequency pulsed light)to get longer... Read more 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful T Rex? No TerraLUX Mate!, By This review is from: TerraLUX TLF-3002AA-BK LightStar300 3-Watt LED Aluminum Flashlight,Titanium Grey (Tools & Home Improvement) I've had this for about 2 weeks now. I spent a fair amount of time looking for the highest rated 2 x AA flashlight out there. This is what I've found. It certainly is the brightest AA flashlight I own. I think it's brighter than my 3 x CR123A (9 volt) SureFire 9P light ($95 ish). But this TerraLUX throws out a lot of light at a very wide angle. My SF's beam is much more narrow and a good spot light. I'm looking forward to using TerraLUX in heavy fog this winter, so I can really see the wide angle and light dispersal. It does not have a forward clicky switch - meaning it must be fully depressed/clicked to activate the light. One cannot just partially press the light to have it turn on. That would be my one suggestion to the company if they're reading this, Hi Scott. Lastly, I'm glad that the default mode is HIGH. I don't understand some companies when they make the HIGH mode the 2nd or 3rd option! Also, it can stand on its tail. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful One ugly little workhorse...Get it, This review is from: TerraLUX TLF-3002AA-BK LightStar300 3-Watt LED Aluminum Flashlight,Titanium Grey (Tools & Home Improvement) Having owned the 3 watt 80 lumen one for a number of years I must say this is a much needed updated version! While as ususal I believe their measurements are off, the still have produced a fantastic little light! on low mode it more than enough light for general tasks and holy cow! on high its more than enough to permanently ruin your night vision! It sports better battery life, a more natural white light rather than your standard wash everything out for the sake of brightness white/blue deal, and still utilizes the standard 2AA battery! CHA_CHING!While nothing is perfect ,like the fact you can no longer adjust the focus, its ugly, it cant be taken apart, and it has opted for a click styled switch verses a twist. IT IS worth every penny. Its simple and functional. It doest advertise a ton of complicated features that need to be reached with combination turns and clicks, It doesnt use an expensive hard to find battery. Hopefully on the next edition we see accurate... Read more |
