The focal length was too long or short or it had to be perfectly placed to see anything and then you would only see one small area clearly through the glass. Also, many, even more expensive ones, had a noticeable loss of light when using. This glass suffers none of these issues. It is clear and bright. It is easy to adjust for clarity and is usable over a wider range of distances. The frame is protective of the glass when laying it down on a table. The light that comes with it is bright and works pretty well, The one thing I noticed that has taken me a bit to work around is that the light is focused right in the small area for the high magnification area. I tend to not use that area and mostly use the larger main lens exclusively. I have had to learn to tilt or adjust the glass a bit to get the light to shine where I need it.
