Break The Spell (Deluxe Version)

Product Description

Break the Spell is a gleaming showcase for frontman Chris Daughtry's powerful, emotionally resonant voice and knack for relentless melodic hooks and big, anthemic choruses. Produced by Howard Benson, who produced Daughtry's two previous albums, Break The Spell gives the band room to evolve musically while aiming to satisfy its many long-time fans. "Going in to the writing sessions, we said, 'Let's not try to sound like anything. Let's just write, and see what happens,'" says Chris, who co-wrote every song with either one of his band-mates (guitarists Josh Steely and Brian Craddock and bassist Josh Paul) or collaborators such as Marti Frederiksen, Busbee, and Bret James. "We came up with some pretty interesting tunes that sound nothing like anything we've done before. Even though some of them didn't make the album, the process stretched us and took us to new places. It was an absolutely inspirational experience."

I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before writing this review, so all of the songs could sink in. I hate when people write a review after listening to an album once or twice. As it stands right now, I've probably listened to this CD all the way through 15 times. Pretty much every day since it came out.

This is a fantastic album. I absolutely loved "Leave This Town", so I won't say that this album is better, but it's definitely in the same league anyway.

Daughtry gets a lot of flack for putting out your standard "Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Verse" kind of song. I don't see what's wrong with that, as long as the music and content of the songs are good. It's not like this is bubble gum pop without any meaning or soul. These songs are deep, catchy, and fun to listen to. Anyone who criticizes this album for being too plain needs to get the rod out of their butthole.

Standout songs for me on the album are: Renegade, Crawling Back To You, Outta My... Read more

    3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK!, December 7, 2011

I'm a pretty hardcore Daughtry fan, and so far, I'm disappointed with this album. There are a few songs that may grow on me in time, but overall, I'm not really feeling it the way I did with the past two. There's no real stand out on this album. I agree with some of the critics that they're becoming formulaic and need to really shake things up next time so they don't start writing canned tunes. It's not a terrible album, and like I said, some of it may grow on me, but it's not up to their usual standards.

Daughtry's new album, Break The Spell, has been released today. I ordered a copy from the band's website and just got it in the mail this morning. The album is more of the melodic rock that the band is known for. This one is their most upbeat yet. I love hearing how the band has evolved and are growing into their own sound. Some of my favorite tracks are: Start of Something Good, Gone Too Soon, Losing My Mind, Rescue Me, Louder Than Ever, Spaceship, Everything But Me (bonus track). Overall, it's my favorite album yet by the band.
