Attach the hinge to the door and frame. Use the Allen wrench in the slot on the top of the hinge to tighten the spring. I installed the hinges on the right side of the door with the Allen slot facing up - I had to turn the spring to the left to make the spring close the door. Reverse that to make the door swing open. Turn the Allen wrench and then jam the long metal bar (pointy end first) into the last visible hole. Pull out the Allen wrench and replace it so you can turn it again. Repeat until you get the tension you want or the limits of your strength. Jam one of the short pins into the last visible hole. Ease back on the Allen wrench until the pin stop the turning. Note that you cannot put the pin in when the long metal bar is in another hole (that learning cost me more than a couple of curses). If... These are great for peace of mind, as now the door swings closed automatically.However, installation was a challenge because there were no instructions. the hinge screws on like any other, but you need to "set" the tension appropriately, and it took some effort to figure out how.
