At 1.5 sones, it is nicely quiet but actually moves the air in the room at the rate it is reported to. I installed this unit in a 300 cu. ft. bathroom and it clears all evidence of the smell following toilet use in 3 minutes flat. Additionally, it keeps the room free of steam build up during showers as well so no mold on the walls! When I flip the switch to turn it on, I am standing next to the entry door and I can feel the air being drawn into the room at the door's edge. Additionally, if I hold my hand in front of the light switch cover or outlet cover, I can feel air being drawn through those openings as well. That's right, even through the minor cracks at the sheetrock edges air is drawn in!!! And yet, it is very quiet. I am a builder and I recommend this fan all the time to many very pleased clients.
